Caregiver Compensation - Alabama
Ready Set Care
Alabama offers three ways to get paid as a family caregiver.
1. Alabama Elderly and Disabled Waiver: Designed to allow elderly and/or disabled individuals who would otherwise require care in a nursing facility to remain at home. Services range from adult day care and respite services to meal deliveries.
Program Requirements
MUST be Alabama resident
MUST be 65+ or disabled
MUST require nursing facility level of care
MUST be Medicaid eligible
Spouses are not eligible

2. Alabama Personal Choices Program: Allows care recipients to choose their caregivers and provides a monthly stipend to hire help and pay for other care expenses.
Program Requirements
MUST be Alabama resident
MUST require nursing facility level of care
MUST be Medicaid eligible
MUST be; receiving personal assistance services under the SAIL Waiver or Elderly and Disabled Waiver
Spouses are not eligible

3. State of Alabama Independent Living Medicaid Waiver (SAIL): Enables disabled adults who would otherwise require care in a nursing facility to remain at home. Services range from helping pay for environmental accessibility adaptations and medical supplies to unskilled respite care.

MUST be 18+ and disabled
MUST require nursing facility level of care
MUST be Medicaid eligible
Spouses, Parents and Children are not eligible
