Caregiver Compensation - Minnesota

Minnesota offers three ways to get paid as a family caregiver.

 

1. Alternative Care Program: is a non-Medicaid program that enables elderly and/or disabled adults who require nursing facility level of assistance to receive care at home. This program allows and pays for care recipients to choose their caregivers. Services range from adult day and respite care to meal deliveries. 

 

Program Requirements

  • MUST be a resident of Minnesota

    • MUST be 65+

    • MUST require nursing level of care

    • MUST not have enough income to pay for nursing home stay over 135+ days

    • All caregivers eligible

2. Consumer Support Grant Program: assists elderly and disabled adults who cannot complete activities of daily living remain at home. Through this program, friends and certain family members can be paid for providing personal care services. 

 

Program Requirements

  • MUST be a resident of Minnesota

    • MUST require assistance with daily living activities

    • MUST live in a county that offers the program

    • MUST be Medicaid eligible

    • All caregivers eligible 

 

3. Minnesota Elderly Waiver: is designed to help elderly and disabled adults receive care at home or in a community setting. This program pays friends and certain family members for providing personal care services. Covered services may include: adult day and respite care, skilled nursing visits, and meal deliveries. 

 

Program Requirements

  • MUST be a resident of Minnesota

    • MUST be 65+

    • MUST require nursing home level of care

    • MUST be Medicaid eligible

    • All caregivers eligible
