Caregiver Compensation - Ohio

Ready Set Care

Ohio offers three ways to get paid as a family caregiver.

 

1. Elderly Services Program (ESP): allows elderly and disabled adults who cannot complete activities of daily living to remain at home. Under this program, certain family members can be hired and paid to carry out personal care services.

 

Program Requirements

  • MUST be a resident of Ohio

    • MUST reside in a participating county: Butler, Clinton, Hamilton, or Warren

    • Butler and Clinton county residents: Age 65+

    • Hamilton and Warren county residents: Age 60+

    • MUST require some assistance with Daily Living Activities 

    • MUST meet income requirements

    • Spouses are NOT eligible

2. MyCare Ohio Plan (MCOP): enables elderly and disabled adults to receive care at home or in a community setting. Through this program, friends and certain family members can be paid for providing personal care services. Other covered services might include: adult day and respite care to home modifications.  

 

Program Requirements

  • MUST be a resident of Ohio

    • MUST be at least 65 years of age

    • MUST reside in one of the 29 participating counties

    • MUST be receiving services from both Medicare AND Medicaid

    • Spouses are NOT eligible

3. PASSPORT Waiver: is designed to help elderly and/or disabled adults who require nursing facility level of assistance to receive care at home. This program allows certain family members to be hired and paid to carry out personal care services. Other services range from adult day and respite care to meal deliveries.

 

Program Requirements

  • MUST be a resident of Ohio 

    • MUST be at least 60 years of age

    • MUST require nursing facility level of care

    • MUST be Medicaid eligible

    • Spouses are NOT eligible
